Welcome to Weekly Empowerment sponsored by the Empowered Women’s Support Group where we are gaining victory through our crisis.
In October of 1991, Mercury Records and PolyGram Entertainment released a rap single by
Blacksheep called “The Choice is Yours.” In 1992 it was #1 on the Billboard new rap song charts and In 2008, it was ranked #73 on VH1s 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs of all time. The song has since been featured in a Kia Soul commercial and in 2016 was the track for an Airheads candy commercial. The chorus of this popular song repeats You can get with this or you can get with that… The choice is yours.
Today, I'm not here to give you a hip hop history lesson and though I wish I could give each of you a new Kia Soul or send you some Airheads, I am here to share this message with you: Don’t let this keep you from that.
THIS is your current situation; your current pain; and your current struggle.
THAT are the things you’ve been praying for; the things you’ve been believing for, and the plans God has for you.
Day by day, hour by hour and sometimes minute by minute “This” and “That” are bouncing back and forth in our minds. Both of them fighting for our attention. Both of them fighting for our focus.
THIS wants you to feed it with complaints, anger and resentment, while THAT is crying out to you to put the pain aside, take a step and move forward.
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us. - Rom 8:18 KJV
In other words if you put THIS and THAT on a scale, THAT would outweigh THIS. THAT is so much greater.
I want you to know “That” is on the way…
You might have to go through some things. You might have to endure some more. Because ultimately you have to go through THIS in order to get to THAT. But you are not going through alone and you’re going through unprotected.
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.
For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
You need to know that your have been ransomed. This means that the price has already been paid for you to be free. I dare you to say “I’m already Free.” Just because you are still in a situation, does not mean that you are not free. You have to start acting free, thinking like you are free, walking like you’re free, talking lie you’re free. Because you have been ransomed and you are already free.
When you go through deep rivers of difficulty… you will not drown because you are not alone and you are not unprotected. Even walking through the fire of oppression… you will not be burned or consumed because you are not alone and you are not unprotected.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.
God has the master plan and THIS can’t keep you from it unless you give up and throw in the towel.
[Isa 35:10 KJV] 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
You are the ransomed and soon joy and gladness will replace the sorrow and sighing.
In closing, the Black Sheep song is entitled "The Choice is Yours."
You can get with THIS, but I encourage you to press your way to THAT. You can do all things through Christ who is with you and who is strengthening you.
