Self Care Tip: Breathe



Have you ever felt really stressed? This is a strategy I use when I feel that way. I practice 4-7-8 breathing. I learned this technique during a teacher professional development. I was in a class that was there to help teachers deal with trauma. As an educator, my job is to reach all of my students and sometimes (most times) it means dealing with some level of trauma.


The strategy is simple and it make me feel so much better.

  • Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds

  • Hold that breath for 7 seconds

  • Release the breath slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds.

  • Then repeat 3 -4 times.

  • That's it!
